Pain & Fatigue

It’s often struck me how low a threshold people seem to have for pain, and how quickly they become tired of even simple tasks, including myself. Of course the question is why is this so for people in our society, when so many others have endured much greater hardships, for much longer times, without nearly as much complaining, or even thought of the hardship?

It occurred to me at least one factor in this is our society’s focus on self. When we only look to what benefit we can get from something, especially when the reward is only monetary, pain, exertion, or even boredom hardly seem worth it. Yet if you consider someone doing the same things just so their child can go to school, so they can provide food for their family, or just considering the benefit their work has for others, their attitude seems to be entirely different.

If we were to focus more on others, and less on self, I’m sure the pain and fatigue of our labor would hardly be noticed.
