Half an hour of happiness

I’ve realized that much of what I enjoy in this world is temporary. A song, a game, a show, a joke; they all only lift your spirits for a moment. Yet the world sees clever entertainment as a great boon in our society, lifting people out of their depression, even though it only lifts them for half an hour or two.

It’s even worse when this mentality enters the worship service. When deep, lasting growth in a person to overcome their problems is abandoned for a short lived emotional high. And emotional highs will never last. Emotions fade, and are quickly overwhelmed by circumstance.

What a tragedy when this mentality enters the worship service. When that which is divine, and meant to give man a lasting victory over the problems of the word is exchanged for the world’s solutions, which only distract us from the problems, not overcoming them.
